Importance of honeymoons underlined by bridal mag

After all the stress of planning and taking part in a wedding, a honeymoon is something that couples definitely need, one expert has said.

Amelia Bloomfield, editor of the Australian magazine Bride to Be, said this break is important because it offers loved-up newlyweds chance to relax and bond together.

She commented to the Age: “A honeymoon is a great excuse to take a significant break from work as you celebrate your newlywed bliss.”

The magazine’s recent Cost of Love survey found that many popular honeymoon destinations are in south-east Asia, with couples selecting destinations in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, among other locations.

However, the most popular kind of romantic break was still the beach honeymoon, with over half of couples choosing this kind of trip.

Ms Bloomfield remarked that, as the credit crunch bites, many couples are saving their money up to go for a longer, more luxurious honeymoon, rather than going on short breaks throughout the year leading up to their wedding.

Meanwhile, according to Andrea DeLucia, writer and editor of TravelSavvy, Venice in particular continues to be as popular for honeymoons.

Some 20 million tourists visit the city each year, including those looking for a romantic ride on the gondolas.
