Also known as Ayers rock which is a huge a rock rising up to about 350m from the barren surrounding, couples honeymooning here will get a true taste of the outback. Have dinner under the stars while a chef serves you food from a contemporary Australian menu. Due to the remote location, at night you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the stars together without the light pollution. In the day go for a tour of the desert on the back of a camel or by helicopter. Visit the Mutitjulu water hole with a guide to view cave paintings and learn about the history of Ayres rock. Sporty couples can climb Ayres rock and explore the base of it by 10km footpath which takes a couple of hours to get there and back.
Uganda is a relatively small country with amazing scenic wonders such as Lake Victoria and its sandy beached tropical islands. Visit the Kibale National Park and go on a Chimpanzee tracking safari to spot black & white Colobus, grey cheeked Mangabey and the red tailed monkey. After tracking chimps head to the Bigodi Wetland Preserve situated in the Magomba Swamp. This is a great place to take a romantic walk and visit viewing platforms for amazing views of Colobus monkeys, Mongoose and chimps as well as exotic birds and other species. For a spot of relaxation head to the Mihingo Safari Lodge and stay in a private tented cottage. The cottages provide a swimming pool with breathtaking views of the African bush and the option to have your own private bush dinner in your cottage.
For stunning seaside scenery and romantic candlelight dinners, look no further than Lima. Visit the Parque Del Amour (Park of Love) and take in the manicured parks and stunning coastal cliffs. In the evening visit Lima’s magic water circuit, with 13 ornamental fountains that flow to music and come complete with lighting, it’s a sight not to be missed. San Bartolo is a quiet seaside town just outside Lima, relax on the beach or try your hand at surfing and sample some of the excellent seafood restaurants in the area. Visit Arequipa which is surrounded by three outstanding volcanoes and boasts white buildings and pretty cobblestone streets. Sample the national drink, a pisco sour cocktail made with grape brandy, lime juice and syrup topped with egg white foam and cinnamon. For dinner try one of the small romantic restaurants to enjoy Arequipan gastronomy such as hot stuffed Rocoto peppers, crayfish stew and Ocopa.
Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong’s colourful culture and heritage sets it apart from other cities in the world. For shopaholic couples look no further than Temple Street night market with vendors offering a variety of gadgets, hardware, watches, jewellery, clothing and curios. Head up to Peak Tower to the highest point in the city for a spectacular view. After taking in the view of the city pose with some of the top celebrities at the Peaks Madame Tussauds. Hong Kong offers a variety of foods, everything from burgers and pizza to seafood delicacies and even roasted lizards. For night owl couples have a drink at one of Hong Kong’s oldest pubs the Wan Chai, after head to one of Macau’s casinos and have a drink at one of the luxurious bars.
Great for couples who want the convenience of a city plus the pleasures of the outdoors. Portland is known as the Rose City due to its misty climate being the ideal weather for growing roses. Take a romantic walk through the International Rose Test Garden and view over 10,000 beautiful plants, weddings are also permitted at this location. After your walk visit Portland’s famous donuteria VooDoo doughnuts with flavours including the voodoo doll, bacon maple bar and Portland cream doughnut. Half an hours drive from Portland is the Multnomah Falls, the second highest waterfall in the United States. Take the paved trail to the Benson Bridge for a dramatic view of the falls. On the way back head to Multnomah Falls Lodge for a snack and souvenir of your trip.
Santiago is a great starting point for your honeymoon. The Plaza De Armas is the heart and soul of Santiago. The plaza contains a variety of sculptures, fountains and lush trees, perfect for a lazy afternoon stroll in the sunshine. Santiago Cathedral is one of the most noticeable buildings on the Plaza displaying some of Chile’s beautiful architecture. Barrio Lastarria is an upscale bohemian neighbourhood with art galleries and a great mix of bars and restaurants. Take a walk around Parque Forestal with its manicured gravel paths and iconic lampposts and take in the beautiful art deco buildings that line the park. The Emporio La Rosa a deli offering al fresco lunches and some of the best ice cream in Santiago is the perfect place to cool off. On a Saturday the flea market takes over Lastarria offering antiques, books and art. Enjoy the various street painters, jugglers and other artists that perform on the weekends.
Take a honeymoon to Austin Texas for natural beauty, great food and drink spots. Head to Hamilton Pool Preserve for a spot of summer swimming in a stunning natural swimming pool surrounded by a ring of waterfalls, hiking is also available in the surrounding area. While in the area take the opportunity to go to a University of Texas game. The entire place becomes a sea of burnt orange, so grab yourselves a foam finger and corn dog to join in on the fun!
