Being part of the Holidaysplease family certainly has its perks! We recently bought a luxury apartment in Spain to be used for staff trips, customer rewards, charity prizes and competition giveaways. Staying in our beautiful apartment is a truly wonderful experience and we can prove it! Our colleague Natalie Hyman, Head of Tour Operations & Customer Care, took the time to tell us about her stay at our stylish Spanish property.
What are the facilities like?
The apartment has everything you could possibly need and more. There is air con in each room, which is great! Towels are provided, so that’s one less thing to pack! There are even fun little extras like a mask and snorkel, floats and beach balls. There are great cooking facilities if you want to cook your own meals and there is a beautiful balcony where you can dine with a view of the pool.
What’s around the apartment?
There is a small supermarket around the corner from the apartment and a slightly bigger one within a 15 minute walk, which is next to the Los Amigos Beach Club. This is a really nice hotel and if you follow it round to the front there is a small strip with a number of different restaurants, a shop and a pharmacy.
The supermarkets are only small, but you can get all the basics. If you want to cook then there is an Aldi and Lidl literally 5 minutes’ drive away, so this is ideal if you decide to hire a car. If not, you can easily take the bus or arrange a taxi.
Are there any eating places nearby?
If you don’t want to cook during your stay, there are a few restaurants within a very short walking distance – you can even see one from the pool and this was my absolute favourite! It’s called Restaurant El Patio del Faro and the service is great! I think it may be family run – the outside dining area is really pretty and the food was great. They have an a la carte menu and a set menu where you can get 3 courses for 17 euros which includes steak and seafood!
Do you need to hire a car to get around the area?
There are good bus services just at the end of the road. You can go to Marbella, which takes about an hour on the bus or just half an hour by car. The bus is quite nice though – it’s air conditioned and there’s lots of things to see out the window. From there, you can go and see how the rich and famous live! We went to Peurto Banus and we had the biggest cocktail ever at a bar called ASTRAL. It was amazing and I would definitely recommend!
If you go the other way on the bus, you can go into the local town of Fuengirola or it’s just a 10 minute taxi ride away. It’s really nice. There are lots of locals, a good beach and plenty of places to eat and drink. We had amazing paella and churros there.
What did you do during your stay?
Apart from eating and drinking we didn’t do too much! Most of our time was spent by the pool getting a tan! We did go down to the beach, which is just a 5-10 minute walk away and there is a really great beach bar/restaurant. They smoke fresh sardines on the BBQ.
One of the days, we went on a buggy tour, which was so much fun! We booked with a company called Buggy Tours Costa Del Sol. They came and picked us up and took us to their base. It was only us and another couple on the tour, which was amazing!
We drove around the mountains and saw the real Spanish landscape. There were quite a few stops so you could swap drivers if you wanted to and there are loads of great view points. One thing that was quite cool is you can stop at a fresh water spring and fill up your bottles right from the source. There’s a white washed village called Mijas that I wish we had time to see, but you could see it in the distance on the tour which was nice. You get super, super dusty on the tour so the stop-off is a nice opportunity to have a look at the damage in the bathroom mirror! More dust = more fun! And I was covered!
We are delighted Natalie had such a great time…even if we were jealous of her giant cocktail! We hope more people can experience our lovely apartment.
