JK Rowling went to teach English in Porto, Portugal. She was experiencing a difficult time with her mother passing and decided a change of scenery would be good for her. In her hand luggage was an early manuscript about a young wizard called Harry Potter. Porto provided inspiration for the talented writer. It’s said that the inspiration behind Hogwarts came from Livraria Lello Bookstore, which many tourists and wizard enthusiasts enjoy visiting.

In more recent times, Ed Sheeran took a year’s hiatus to explore a variety of countries. He went to New Zealand where he admired Sir Peter Jackson’s World War I planes at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre and he took the plunge with a classic Kiwi bungee jump, despite his fear of heights!

Ed’s adrenaline activities didn’t end there – he also went white water rafting whilst in Fiji and even braved bull shark diving.

As you all know, travelling isn’t always smooth sailing. In Iceland, Ed burnt his foot in a boiling geyser. That must have been painful at the time, but it gave him a great story for Graham Norton!

Ed Sheeran returned from his travels with tons of new music, as well as a fantastic collection of travel memories!

Perhaps you’re not best mates with Richard Branson just yet…that’s ok. There are tons of amazing countries out there that are waiting for someone like you. Work hard and take pride in your day job, but don’t forget how much there is to see beyond your daily routine…
