Coast 2 Coast USA: East Coast

I’d barely had the time to get used to being back in UK’s time zone from my previous USA MegaFam trip before I was packing my bags once more and heading to Heathrow again! I couldn’t quite believe my luck! This time, I was travelling to New York for 2 nights and then onto San Francisco for 2 more nights with Virgin Flightstore on their action-packed Coast2Coast FAM trip!

I’d heard prior to flying with Delta that they were feeders. I can confirm this to be true! We were regularly offered food (from in-flight meals to Magnums) and drink on our 7+ hour flight to John F Kennedy, New York.

From the moment we landed, there was no time for jet lag as we had many activities to fit in! We dropped our bags off at our hotel, Grand Hyatt New York. This was an excellently located hotel and it prides itself on being the only hotel which is connected to the infamous Grand Central Station. After a very quick pit stop, we made our way on the subway to One World Observatory – the 102nd floor of One World Trade Center! Currently the 6th tallest building in the world, the views from the observatory were fantastic with clear skies. From this height, we could see it all – from Brooklyn Bridge, to The Statue of Liberty and The Empire State Building!

After grabbing a bite to eat – and running out of time – we rushed, and even had to break out into a light jog to get to Broadway in time to watch CHICAGO!  The show was really enjoyable, and easy to follow throughout. Perhaps not a family show, but a must-see!

Our second day in New York was memorable – purely down to the amount of incredible food we ate! We began with breakfast at the hotel. I had a “short stack” of chocolate chip pancakes which was more like the size of a cake! Then, we took the East Side Ferry over to Brooklyn. Following a visit to Brooklyn’s Historical Society, we visited the DeKalb Market Hall for lunch! I would absolutely recommend this hidden gem in Brooklyn! DeKalb Market Hall is one the largest food centres in New York City, allowing you to discover the latest trends in Brooklyn cuisine. From tacos, to kebabs, to jerk chicken and truffle-flavoured chips – we had it all. From each market stall, chefs would come over to our table to discuss their speciality dishes with passion!

Following our absolute feast, we carried our food babies with us as we walked across Brooklyn Bridge – it was a lovely day, so it was filled with tourists all getting the perfect selfie!

We concluded the day the way it started – with more food. We had beautifully cooked steak at the Capital Grille Restaurant located just down the road from Grand Hyatt New York. As with the previous FAM trip – we were spoiled! I will dream about the food I ate in New York until I return once again in the future!

I concluded my time in New York with a short stroll down Fifth Avenue and then onto Central Park. With New York’s skyline in the distance, it is easy to keep track of your bearings as you travel up and along the various paths in Central Park. I travelled around by foot, however if you want to see more of Central Park then be sure to hire a bike!

I made my way back to the hotel via a few of the shops located down Fifth Avenue of course! After that, we made our way to the airport where my next and final stop in USA would be on the west coast, in San Francisco!
