Australia, South Africa and New Zealand make the wine list

Anyone with a love of fine wine may be interested in a new compilation made by the online travel community TripAdvisor.

The site has put together a list of the world’s best wine regions, where connoisseurs can go to see the drink being made and hopefully to sample a few glasses for themselves, Canada.com reports.

Coming in at number five on the list is an Australian entry, the Barossa Valley.

This is famed for its high-quality Shiraz and other red wines. Visitors can also cycle, play golf, bushwalk, visit festivals and shop amid the rolling countryside, Barossa.com states.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch in South Africa was ninth, perhaps due to it being in the heart of the popular Cape Winelands region.

New Zealand was not left out, however, earning a mention in tenth place for Blanc Stare in Marlborough as a result of its Sauvignon Blancs.

“Wine lovers are increasingly following their passion on [holiday] with more visitors to wine regions, which now boast top hotels, restaurants and tours,” Canada.com said.

Anyone going on wine-tasting holidays may be interested in a tip from Wines.com, which suggests starting off with sparkling wines, roses, light whites and full-bodied whites, before progressing to the heaviest (light reds to more full-bodied reds followed by dessert wines).

This will preserve the sensitivity of your taste buds.
