Officials ‘thrilled’ over South African holiday vote

Tourist officials in Cape Town seem to be positively glowing with pride after winning an award from holidaymakers.

Readers of the Telegraph voted Cape Town as Best World City in a travel poll, helping it to beat off stiff competition from Sydney and San Francisco in the process.

Meanwhile, South Africa as a whole also came in among the top three non-European countries.

Mariette du-Toit, Cape Town’s tourism chief executive, said the city is attractive because it offers holidaymakers plenty to do, as well as being a good value destination.

“We are thrilled with the news. Cape Town has so much to offer that visitors generally end up coming back to see and do more,” she remarked.

Anyone going on holidays to Cape Town is advised not to miss Table Mountain or the Cape winelands.

The more daring among you may also wish to try cage diving with great white sharks, since the areas is one of the best places in the world to spot the majestic creatures.

South Africa may also be a good place to go in terms of getting more from the exchange rate – its rand is currently performing well against sterling, while the euro has recently plummeted.
