Winehouse ‘showcases beauty of St Lucia’

Despite her portrayal in the media as something of a fallen star, it seems officials in St Lucia are keen to keep hold of Amy Winehouse.

The troubled singer jetted off to the Caribbean island in December and although the British press have accused her of everything from holding drunken parties to begging guests for drinks, the island’s tourism minister Allen Chastanet said that Winehouse has been smiling or chatting in every photograph he has seen of her.

He added that this will show tourists all over the world what an excellent holiday destination St Lucia is faster than any holiday brochure could.

Indeed, so grateful is the official that he has sent Winehouse a basket of local produce to say thanks.

It seems the celebrity is as enamoured with the island as its ministers are with her – she has extended her holiday for the foreseeable future and has credited her break with helping her to win her well publicised battle with drugs.

She said that going to St Lucia “has changed everything” and that she has finally been able to relax and eat properly.

St Lucia would be a great place to go for a honeymoon – it boasts rainforests, beaches, clear water, golden sand and lively resorts that would surely appeal to any bride and groom.
