Co – Op and Thomas Cook to merge!

News just in! In a bid to form the largest high street travel agency chain in the United Kingdom, the Co – Operative and Thomas Cook have announced a proposed a merger.

This is a possible reflection of the current economic times. The Co – Op has a reputation for priding itself on its independence and ethics and for it to shake hands with the commercial super power of the travel industry Thomas Cook, shows that desperate times can call for desperate measures. The merger is said to save around £35 million in cost cuttings, probably from closures of shops and redundancies.

Luxury Holiday expert Charles Duncombe, director of Holidays Please said “This is a very surprising move, and could limit customer choice with the addition bad news with many jobs being lost”.
