What a load of rubbish!!

What if we took all the trash in the world and made art out of it? It might look something like this:

Welcome to Beach Garbage Hotel, the world’s first hotel to be made entirely from rubbish – yes that’s rubbish, has been built in Spain. The German artist Ha Schult built the five bedroom hotel entirely from debris deposited by the tide, waste found in dumps and junk bought at local flea markets. Among the interior boasts; plastic drums, wooden frames, musical instruments, striped socks, tyres, and children’s books. Meanwhile the five rooms are built from wobbly sideboards, streetlights and Persian rugs.

Although it is literally a load of rubbish, the purpose of this structure is to create awareness to the negative impact of mass tourism which has resulted in increase of littering. Mass tourism is increasingly becoming popular. Although it is advantageous for the local economy as it increases employment opportunities and income, it also creates a negative impact on the environment in terms of the waste produced. Whether mass tourism is beneficial can be argued, what do you think?

The artist decided to draw attention to the huge amount of waste generated by mass tourism in Europe. He told the AFP news agency, “I created the Beach Garbage Hotel because the oceans of our planet are the biggest garbage dump”. The aim was to show some contrast with the pictures painted by the tourism industry and the underlying damages. 30- 40% of the rubbish was collected from the beaches of Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain alone.

He added, “It reflects how things can end up if we do not take care of our planet. We live in the era of trash, and we run the risk of becoming trash. Do we really want such a world?”
