Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

I was looking around the internet at travel news and came across and article which stated the best time to book a holiday is exactly 8 weeks before your departure date, exactly 8 weeks from now would land us on the 26th of October. At holidays please we are constantly updating our holiday’s deals page (having spent the majority of my day doing so) and we currently have fantastic deals to a verity of destinations.

Now going back to the eight week booking thing, we currently have on offer eight nights at 5 Star Evason Phuket Resort & Spa, the offer ends on the 24th of October, now I know it’s slightly pushing the boundaries of the rule but this fantastic offer of only £1758 per couple!!! And falls very close to the 8 week rule, and therefore couldn’t just be overlooked!

An offer however which does fall in the middle of the rule if you book now, is our offer to The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa, with 6 nights in Koh Samui Malaysia pay 4 and save £310! This deal applies for departures between 25th September and 31st of October!  The resort itself offers beautiful rooms and private villas, with breath taking views of the sea and sandy beaches. The resort is located amongst a fishing village on a small Malaysian island in the Andaman Sea, with the nearby harbor and town Kuah which is famous for shopping.

Family Holidays- Heaven or Hell?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
A family holiday should be a fun, relaxing and stress-free time for everyone in the family. Or is it? According to Teletext Holidays, a study of 2,000 mums revealed that going on holiday with the children is even more stressful than a 9-5 job. One in four mums said how packing, travelling and keeping the kids busy is more hard work than actually working. Four in ten mums fear taking a holiday break and avoid going abroad due to all the worry and trouble it causes. A further 36% complained how a lack of help from their partners also causes friction and rows with 80% of mums needing another holiday when they return.
As a result, the poll found that half of the mums surveyed will only book a holiday at a place which offers a kids club, on-site entertainment and a maid service in order to make the holiday as relaxing as possible. Having said this, 52% said how they still end up having to wash dishes, 43% end up cooking and 73% even admitted to cleaning up their hotel room before the maid came so that they don’t come across as messy. These figures highlight how important choosing the right holiday is for all members of the family. Travelling with children can be a burden but choosing an all-inclusive family-friendly resort offering kids clubs, babysitters and maid services can help ease the strain, leaving you to switch-off and enjoy the holiday you deserve. So why not let us help you find the perfect family-friendly resorts wherever you wish to go for your next family holiday. Our friendly dedicated travel experts will be delighted to assist in making your next family holiday as stress-free as possible.

Low Cost Airlines

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Thai Airways and Singapore’s Tiger Airways will together launch a low-cost carrier in Thailand next year. The new carrier, Thai Tiger, will be based in Bangkok, the regional Southeast Asia hub for tourists especially those arriving from Europe. Thai Tiger will fly to destinations within five hours of Bangkok, such as Vietnam and Cambodia, offering travellers a cheap and more convenient way to travel.

The new airline is expected to launch in the first three months of 2011 and will operate as a competitor to already successful low-cost Far East carriers, Air Asia, and Qantas-owned Jetstar. The budget airline market has boomed worldwide over the past decade but there’s always negativity surrounding them. For instance in the UK carriers easyJet and Ryanair always receive mixed reactions from travellers and the media. What are your reactions to low-cost carriers- are they cheap and cheerful or a nightmare to travel with? Feel free to leave your comments below and let us hear your views. Don’t forget to take a look at our amazing Far East holidays and make it the setting for your next escape.

Koh Samui – The Library

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Thailand is a land of variety and surprise and I was heading to one of its gems, Koh Samui. This little island is only a one hour flight from Bangkok. I’d suggest you take the Bangkok Air flight, that way you can use the wonderful lounge they have at Bangkok Airport. After my long flight from the UK I really appreciated the chance to relax and stretch out before the final part of my journey.

Koh Samui has come a long way since its days as a backpackers paradise in the 1970’s. Now you’ll find luxury boutique hotels and lavish spas scattered along the beautiful beaches. I was heading to a quirky boutique hotel, The Library, on the islands most famous sand strip Cheweng Beach. The Library is only fifteen minutes away from the airport, so there’s not that long between touchdown and check in.

The Library has a very modern look, it almost looks other worldly and may not be to everyone’s taste and at first I found the design a little cold. The warm friendly welcome takes the cold edge off the slick modern lines. The suites continue in the ultra modern, but have a relaxing Zen feel that lets your mind un-clutter and relax. The rain shower was a delicious treat after my journey, as was the welcome gift of a bottle of wine.

The Library is built around the concept that we all love a good book to read on holiday. So you can find your ideal read the hotel has its own library in a building called LiB. Like me you may be envisioning a traditional British library, heavy with dark wood shelves and a slightly dusty feeling. Those ideas couldn’t be further from the amazingly sleek, clean white lines of the LiB building. This is a perfect room to browse for an easy holiday read. Just in case you can’t find a good book, there is also internet access available.

The most unusual feature at The Library has to be the red swimming pool. I’ve never a pool quite like this at any hotel. While unusual I must say it’s a very relaxing feature and I spent many happy hours of my Koh Samui holiday sat by the pool reading a book selected from those slick white shelves.

I’ve enjoyed breakfast in bed at many hotels, but the Library takes advantage of its Cheweng Beach location by offering breakfast on the beach. Lounging on a crisp white mattress on the beach in the early morning light you can take advantage of the fresh baked pastries and fruit juices. Dining at The Library is an experience at any time of day thanks to The Page, the top notch restaurant.

I love the whole concept of The Library. I fell in love with the sleek modern lines and style. I want to eat breakfast on the beach every morning. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and if you’re ready to unwind in this Zen ultra modern environment then talk to one of our Koh Samui holiday experts.

Brits ‘are looking for last-minute deals’

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

More people than ever are leaving their holiday bookings until the last minute in order to seek out the best bargain they possible can, new figures suggest.

According to InsureandGo, the length of time between customers buying travel cover and their jetting of to sunnier climes has reduced by 25 per cent between January 2007 and January 2009, suggesting that people are waiting to take advantage of special offers online.

“We think this is a good indicator that people are booking last-minute holidays,” said InsureandGo founder Perry Wilson.

Indeed, 796,000 policies were sold to customers who were departing within three days of purchase.

Mr Wilson warned that holidaymakers should always buy their travel cover as soon as they purchase their holidays in order to be covered for cancellation, as well as so that they do not forget.

The increase in last-minute bookings could also be a knock-on effect of the credit crunch, as people seek to ensure that their job will stay safe by the time summer holidays come around.

The majority of people are still seeking breaks of a fortnight, it was recently reported.

Visit Thailand for relaxation – and very big fish

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Anyone on the lookout for somewhere inspiring to stay while in Thailand should look no further than Ko Lipe.

A tiny island – measuring only one kilometre by two kilometres – in the Andaman Sea, it nevertheless offers holidaymakers plenty to do.

For those who like more lively breaks, Pattaya Beach offers bars and restaurants on the sand, while on the other side of the island, Sunrise Beach is a relaxing haven and a great base for scuba diving thanks to its coral reefs.

Ko Lipe can be easily reached by boat from the main tourist resorts of Koh Phi Phi, Krabi and Trang.

There is also accommodation to suit all budgets, the Thai tourist board attests, with everything from backpackers’ huts to a five-star hotel.

Meanwhile, anglers may soon be flocking to Thailand after it was reported that a man has landed what could be the biggest ever freshwater fish caught on a line.

Ian Welch landed the stingray while working to tag the species with a team of biologists on the Maeklong River.

It weighed 55 stone and was seven feet long with a sting measuring ten feet.

The whopper was tagged and released back into the wild.

‘Adventure is on the cards’ for British holidaymakers

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

British people are rejecting the traditional bucket and spade break in favour of something altogether more exciting when it comes to their holidays, it has been claimed.

Frances Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), has revealed that with the credit crunch still going on, people are saving up their money in order to do something as far removed from their boring everyday routine as they can.

“People to a certain extent are booking away from Western Europe. [They] are wanting to go mid and long haul, because [they] are getting more adventurous,” she commented.

In response to a recent Abta survey, 32 per cent of people said the purpose for their holidays is to avoid the tedium of their everyday lives, while 19 per cent said they take breaks in order to spend time with their family or friends.

Thailand could be an ideal destination for people looking for something different – the Guardian’s Andrew Spooner recently said he visited Koh Samui island and found it to be close to paradise thanks to its white sand beaches and clear seas.

Visitors could also indulge in scuba diving, as well as guided walks in the tropical forests.

Holidaymakers ‘travelling with their conscience’

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

More holidaymakers than ever are looking towards sustainable or eco-tourism for their breaks as they feel the need to give something back, it has been claimed.

Daniel Levine, an analyst at the Avant-Guide Institute in America, said that people are unwilling to give up travel completely in a bid to save the planet – but that they are willing to help its people while enjoying their well-earned breaks.

“What that means is that they’re looking for experiences that speak to their heart,” he commented to Reuters.

The expert added that this may mean giving up spa breaks in favour of trips that allow them to get their hands dirty.

One such scheme in Vietnam encourages visitors to purchase a small pack of books, then deliver them among local communities, he said. This allows travellers to meet people from their destination, while having the satisfaction of donating something that will really help them.

In an article for TravelMole, Valere Tjolle recently said that Thailand may be an ideal place for people looking for eco-tourism projects to go.

As an added bonus, the south Asian country is also renowned for its great scenery and delicious food.

Thrifty Brits make haggling trips

Friday, February 6th, 2009

People from the UK are not afraid to haggle their way to a bargain while on foreign shores, it has emerged.

According to a recent poll, Brits are saving themselves a collective £1.7 billion by bartering locals down on prices, an average of £32.20 per person, Hotels.com discovered.

And this wasn’t limited to souvenirs on market stalls either – people were found to be negotiating prices on everything from taxi fares to meals in hotel restaurants.

Indeed, 76 per cent of people from the UK said they had used this tactic while on holiday.

Alison Couper, spokesperson for Hotels.com, said that she was not surprised to see that haggling is becoming a buzz word for this year.

“Those who are willing to practise the art of haggling on their holiday are likely to find that their money will go even further,” she pointed out.

Brits may find that people selling goods in markets expect to haggle with tourists, even pricing their items higher to start with on order to begin the negotiating.

According to the BBC, this may be pertinent news for anyone going on holiday in Thailand – it states that haggling is practically a national pastime there and holidaymakers should expect to be proficient in the art by the time they leave.
